Profile In 1998 I obtained a bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis on history and classical studies. I graduated summa cum laude, with a 4.0 GPA. As part of my undergraduate studies, I completed an internship with a university press, where I learned about the process of acquiring, editing, and proofreading both fiction and nonfiction texts. During this internship, I did proofreading and fact-checking on a novel that was published shortly after my internship concluded. In 2002 I obtained a juris doctor degree, graduating magna cum laude, in the top ten of my class. During law school, I was an editor for the school's law review, a tutor in the university's writing center, and a teaching assistant for a legal research and writing professor. Through the law review, I also published an article about state animal cruelty laws. Following law school, I worked as a law clerk for a state district court judge for five years. In my capacity as a law clerk, I researched a variety of legal issues and wrote the Opinions and Orders of the court. Clear organization, concise writing, and accuracy with regard to facts and citation are all critical aspects of a law clerk's job. It was my responsibility to ensure that the court's Opinions and Orders were of the highest quality. After working as a law clerk, I obtained a certification to teach English at the secondary level (grades 6-12) and taught high school English for two years. My teaching experience was focused primarily on teaching grammar and writing skills. I have continued to do legal research and writing on a freelance basis. My other interests include literature, films, languages, history, classical studies, animal welfare issues, and drama.
