During college I was fortunate to be on the founding staff of the college's literary magazine. It was during that experience that I became interested in further pursuing editorial work. Upon graduating college with a degree in creative writing, I went to work as a copyeditor and editorial assistant at a large educational publishing company. The work involved proficiency in copyediting, proofreading, layout, design, administrative and clerical work, and customer service. Working in that field has made me extremely detail oriented and very good at meeting deadlines, no matter how tight or rushed. In addition to my editorial responsibilities, I also maintained several databases and co-authored several successful titles for the company.
After spending two years in the editorial field I was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellowship, a prestigious and selective teacher-training program. I went back to school and received my masters degree in Secondary English Education. I have spent the last four years as a full-time high school English teacher in high needs neighborhoods. I am often in a leadership position and have written curriculum for many different courses. In addition I have led many professional development sessions for other teachers on a variety of topics.
Last summer I was granted a position teaching graduate courses at two local universities. In those courses I taught education and ELA related coursework to new high school and middle school English teachers who work in high needs areas. In all aspects of my careers editing and language skills have been an essential part of my daily operations.
