I've spent almost 20 years creating resumes, editing masters' and doctoral theses, and editing the legal writing of lawyers.
There are two jobs I've had that give both amusing anecdotes and examples of my experience. First, in reading for the law, I worked for a rather volatile lawyer who was verbally expressive when it came to telling people what he thought. In exchange for him teaching me the practice of law, I acted as his legal assistant, paralegal and office manager. He quickly noticed that what he dictated was not what he received to sign, and began testing how I typed by standing behind me, dictating a letter and watching what I wrote on the screen. When "Dear Scumbag who couldn't find the law with both hands, a dictionary and the law library" became "Dear Mr. Smith, I write to suggest an alternative viewpoint to your letter of...," he laughed, and made his dictation exactly what he thought from that point, knowing I would make it socially acceptable.
The other story involves getting a job as an Assistant Editor because, as a typesetter for a printing company, I noticed a discrepancy in dates for an article. I couldn't reach the editor or publisher, and tracked down the author in another state to meet their deadline for printing the magazine. The Editor hired me to proofread everything before it went to print after that.
I love reading about a variety of topics, and have a wide base of knowledge in a multitude of subjects, including law, medicine, religion, education, network marketing, herbal and other alternative healing methods, history, romance and sustainability issues.
