I learn quickly and can write about almost any subject in clear and concise terms. As an editor, I have highly developed skills, to include structure (document, sentence, and all in between), proper word usage, punctuation, clarity, and correction of common mistakes.
I applied these skills during my career as an IT professional (now retired). Because of my writing abilities, I was often in charge of developing quality documentation for users, maintenance personnel, and others. I wrote documentation clarifying my organization’s relationship with various contractors. I developed all documentation for a major reorganization. I led special teams who performed comprehensive analyses and then wrote exhaustive reports (such as knowledge management reviews).
In recent years, I have developed knowledge and expertise in the music industry. I maintain and write 95% of the material for a comprehensive Web site for a top musician. I also serve as publicist for that musician and was previously publicist for a significant non-profit venue, submitting well over 100 press releases during my tenure and having several articles published in newspapers. Present occupation: Publicist and Webmaster for well-known and respected musician (retired computer scientist)
Editing experience in years: 40, because I count my first 8 years of work, as a secretary known and highly appreciated for my ability to intelligently correct writing that related to a number of fields, for example: accounting and auditing, aerospace engineering, and telecommunications engineering. This was followed by 29 years of work as an IT professional, mostly writing and sometimes editing technical documentation and management correspondence. For the past 3 years (plus a 2-year overlap with my previous occupation) I have written about the music industry.
Computer experience
Microsoft Office 2003, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have a high degree of expertise in this software, and have used all since 1990. I have developed or led teams developing many large documents using Word, and have produced well over 100 PowerPoint presentations for work and for college courses.
I also have and use Adobe Creative Suite, in particular Photoshop, InDesign (which is a great document layout package), and Illustrator. I use Dreamweaver 8 for Web design, and have expertise in the use of Fireworks.
