Looking for someone with experience in both the academic and the nonprofit worlds? Consider my work experience: librarian, researcher, administrator, indexer, and cataloger. I have expertise in the areas of database management and library research, English literature, and teaching/education from middle school to graduate school. My scholarly interests are in the history of the book and 17th century British literature (the subject of my doctoral dissertation).
I have indexed for the MLA International Bibliography and the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature, as well as for individual monographs. My editing/copy editing/proofreading experience is derived from my dissertation and research work and writing, as well as my professional work as a library administrator. In the latter capacity, some of my major responsibilities included business and technical writing (e.g., handbooks, manuals, memos, budget requests and annual reports). In my scholarly work, I've edited my own work, as well as those of colleagues and contributors to a collection of essays I am editing. I have also received the Editing Certificate from the University of Chicago's Graham School.
I have the ability to learn and absorb content in a variety of subject areas. While the focus of my academic work has been in the fields of English, education, and library science, I've also been able to master basic skills in financial management, new technologies, and database searching and construction. I'm a humanist who also happens to be comfortable with technology. I can boast of an attention to detail (e.g., spelling, grammar, style), even as I engage in the subject matter and intellectual content presented to me.
