English has always been a strength of mine. I am one of those people who has a love for the power of language, and, as such, I hold people to high standards. I believe that grammar exists to allow for clear communication, and without it, we stand to lose a lot in meaning. I also believe that proper use of the language helps to establish credibility. Text with errors suggests a lazy or incompetent writer.
In earning a degree from the University of Northern Colorado in English, I completed various classes focused on the rules of the English language. I took a grammar class, a linguistics class, and many others that required pages and pages of writing. I have used what I learned to apply to my own writing and also to my current career. I have been teaching Language Arts to middle and high school students for the past 3 years. I spend weeks throughout the year working with them on proper command of the written language. I teach grammar, but I also encourage reading and writing - two skills that improve a person's grammatical understanding.
