I am a versatile writer, editor and proofreader who brings enthusiasm, imagination and an exceptional degree of detailed scrutiny and flexibility to any project. Aside from writing, my background is with underprivileged and at-risk youth, and at times I have even been able to combine both threads. My interpersonal skills are excellent, having been honed in homeless shelters, group homes and on the streets as a youth outreach worker.
The common thread throughout my working life has been communication, and it ties together my love of youth issues, the arts, culture, new media and writing. I possess an astute grasp of both the big cultural picture and the specific constituents that comprise it, and am able to express that with elegant, apposite language. I also have a longstanding interest in and knowledge of the Internet, having been a relatively early adopter (1995).
As well as the numerous music reviews and features I've had published in PopMatters, Flak Magazine, Trouser Press and Tangmonkey, I have had articles published in the Georgia Straight and at writer/activist Andrew Vachss’ website The Zero, as well as a short story in Emerge, a collection for emerging writers facilitated by Simon Fraser University, for which I also contributed my marketing skills, liaising with various publishing outlets. I have also authored a blog (Hot Topics) for the Safe Online Outreach Society (SOLOS), a non-profit society established to help youth remain safe online.
