I am a retired high school English teacher with thirty years of experience with teaching composition, grammar and literature. Along with teaching the fundamentals of writing and grammar, I have had a great deal of experience helping students edit their essays and research papers. I have taught grades 8-12 and sponsored the yearbook and literary magazine. Both of these publications required my proofing before the books were printed. I have also tutored students in the areas of writing, grammar, and mechanics. I have a good eye for proofreading, locating all types of errors. I also have a talent for rewriting what others have written in order to make it flow better and sound clearer. Since my college degrees are in the area of English, I have the knowledge I need to support my talent. When I read a book, I am always noticing things that a proofreader should have caught or an editor should have had the writer change. I can move through a piece quickly, searching only for technical errors, and then go back through it more carefully for content errors. I believe the only way to successfully communicate ideas to others is to express them without the presence of errors. Errors affect the flow of words and sometimes prevent the reader from understanding the intended message.
