NOTE: these rates are not set in stone and are only an average for this editor. The actual rate applicable to your document will depend on the depth of the edit, the quality of the writing, the topic matter, the proximity of the deadline, the length of the document and several other factors.
I have found this to be true with my own writing as well. As a technical communicator used to working in a team environment, I've come to value the importance of good editing. An outside pair of eyes is often just what your document needs to find the little flaws that can trip up your target audience.
In addition, most people don't realize that the end-user of a document strongly influences editing decisions. How your document will be edited must take into consideration the needs of the reader. Are your readers in upper management? Are they reviewers, deciding if your manuscript merits publication? Could they be customers trying to make your product work?
I bring to you over 20 years of experience editing and writing documents for biomedical engineers, physicians, quality groups, hi-tech medical device companies, and manufacturing companies. My skills range from editing, analyzing, and rewriting documents for quality management systems, to editing and rewriting manuscripts for publication, writing white papers, and designing and writing user manuals and technical installation manuals.
Other skills include writing online Help systems, developing and writing for web sites, creating HTML-based documentation CDs, and providing content for corporate intranet sites.
I have lived overseas for 25 years. Working with documents written by non-native English speakers is, for me, a fun challenge. I know what questions to ask, and enjoy helping to craft manuscripts so that they can be submitted with confidence.
I look forward to hearing from you and providing you with the services needed to make your documents shine.
