I have over 25 years of experience as a legal proofreader/copy editor, mostly in the corporate and litigation fields. As such, I have a thorough knowledge of legal terminology, citations (primarily Bluebook), Latin phrases, redlining, and EDGAR. I also have many years of experience as a medical/scientific proofreader. This includes familiarity with medical and scientific terms, adherence to journal styles, as well as AMA style, and all the technical aspects of proofreading, such as measuring type sizes (points and picas), recognition of hundreds of typefaces, and other specifications of printed matter, including line spacing and margins. Although my previous proofreading/copy editing experience is overwhelmingly in the scientific and legal fields, which requires exacting conformity to industry-specific guidelines, I am equally proficient in proofreading and editing in other fields, such as literature, poetry, and scholastic publications. These subjects require allowing for a certain amount of leeway in terms of allowing for an author's unique style. However, since conforming (to some particular) style, as well as the usual English rules of grammar, syntax and usage, still apply, my skills in the more technical fields have given me the ability to focus on the necessary details of any proofreading or copy editing project with an exacting accuracy without sacrificing the more creative aspects of a work in the fields of art and literature.
