I have worked in Asia for seven years as an English teacher. For three of those years, I was working at a top university in South Korea, teaching writing at every level, from basic grammar through to high-level essay composition.
As well as teaching classes, I gained a lot of experience in proofreading and editing students' work at drop-in writing clinics. These clinics were designed to help university students with any writing work they had done outside of their English classes. This work included resumes, cover letters, job applications, essays and doctoral theses. The clinics were also utilised by Korean professors at the university.
In previous jobs, I was responsible for selecting, writing, proofreading and editing material for English textbooks. These books were designed for use by elementary, middle and high school students.
Having worked in Asia for so long, I have an excellent understanding of the specific problems faced by writers using English as a second language. I can spot these problems with ease, explain how and why these problems occur, and discuss the best ways to fix them.
I'm a resident of the United Kingdom, but have worked teaching American English. Therefore, I have an excellent working knowledge of both British and American styles, including differences in spelling and colloquial usage.
