I hold a BA in Political Science with a Russian Studies minor from the College of Wooster, as well as a MA in Political Science and Russian & East European Studies from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I have worked for 8.5 years as an administrator of an interdisciplinary academic program in Russian & East European Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. My major job responsibilities include writing and editing grant proposals, grant reports, newsletters, and various publicity materials. In this capacity, I have been successful in securing a number of major federal grants for my program. I also serve on the editorial board of an online journal that publishes student work in the field of Russian Studies.
Most of my co-workers (faculty, staff, and students), including both native English speakers and those whose first language is not English, rely on me to edit their written materials for mechanics and style. In particular, I have extensive experience in proofreading documents written by native speakers of Slavic languages, and am aware of the errors in English writing that are commonly made by speakers of these languages. I myself have studied the Russian, Czech, German, and Spanish languages. I have a degree of reading proficiency in each of these languages, as well as conversational proficiency in Russian, which I have studied most recently. In addition to foreign languages and international politics, my main academic interests include European, and particularly Slavic, literatures and cultures.
