Profile My services include:

Copy editing, including (but not limited to) technical, stylistic and content editing.

Substantial editing, including reorganization of content; changes in tone, style and focus; fact-checking; indexing; cross-referencing; and the layout, formatting, organization, creation and veracity of citations, captions, tables, graphics, charts etc.

Proofreading, including proofing, desktop publishing, template design etc.

Rewriting existing material, such as technical and report writing and procedure design, to effect a change in tone, style, focus, formatting etc.

I have experience in working with reports; manuals; government writing; non-fiction and fiction narratives; and technical, commercial and business-oriented documents.

For the past two and a half years, I have been working as a Technical Editor for the Australian Army.

I coordinated a small group of professional editors and undertook copyediting and proofreading for a large variety of technical publications. The publications varied from training manuals for operating equipment and computer software to theoretical guides dealing with engineering-related physics.
As my position there was a constantly expanding and varied role, I have a vast knowledge base and experience in dealing with all aspects of professional writing and editing.

The sensitive nature of the work influenced my strong commitment to privacy and confidentiality. As the end-products were used as official training documents for the entire Australian Army, I also came to excel at communicating with a very diverse group of people, often spread over a large area geographically and requiring different approaches from a set of varied political and social schemas.

I am currently undertaking a PhD in Creative Writing, transferring from a Master’s degree in Editing, Publishing and Creative Writing. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing and Literature.

I have advanced knowledge of the entire MS Office suite (including expert-level knowledge of Excel and Word), Adobe Acrobat, Adobe FrameMaker, plus skills in InDesign and PhotoShop. These core skills are enhanced by my knowledge of basic web design – including HTML, CSS and Java.

My commitment to postgraduate education exemplifies my interest in professional writing.
