I have been involved in children’s and educational publishing for almost twenty years. Projects have ranged from Little Golden Books (picture books) to self-help books for teens, middle-grade fiction, read-aloud classroom plays, reference books (Encarta Jr. Encyclopedia, Scholastic Children’s Dictionary), and teacher lesson plans. I also consult about and edit educational websites (lesson plans, short articles, book blurbs, etc.) The variety of projects has always been great! In addition to writing and editing, I also teach “Writing Children’s Books” through Gotham Writers Workshop (writingclasses.com). My career in children’s and educational publishing began as a staff writer/editor at Scholastic Inc. I worked in various departments, on a range of publications and projects before leaving to become an Editorial Director of the classic Little Golden Books. By the time I “went freelance,” three years later, I had a nice cadre of editor friends/contacts that has since grown even larger, and has thus has helped me to stay in business!
