I sincerely have a gifted ability along with trained experience in editing and proofreading. On numerous occasions I have provided editing or proofreading suggestions to food, automobile or clothing companies. I have even submitted suggestions to various monthly periodicals.
Initially I have provided this service as a nice gesture. Though I have freelanced with various organizations needing this service regarding brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, magazines and even newspapers.
When I read anything, I don't look for errors unless I have been asked to do so by a colleague or similar. However, when I do read a magazine article, newspaper column or even an amusement park brochure, I detect errors quite easily, whether it is a simple (but important) grammatical or punctuation error or something more detailed like a syntax error or subject-verb agreement.
The level of detail required is set by you the customer. With that said, I can provide any level deemed necessary. It has been noted on more than one occasion of the fallacy of spell-check. It is an invaluable tool regarding the simple need for correct spelling but often the spell-check does not understand the relationship between words in a sentence structure. A trained eye can detect this.
