I'm a high school English teacher looking for freelance editing and proofreading work. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in Secondary English with an emphasis in English. Because of my teaching and grading experience, I have honed my proofreading and editing skills.
I have two solid years of proofreading experience, including editing/proofreading instruction for high stakes testing such as the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) and district-mandated testing. At my school, I have lead group instruction of teachers on how to effectively rate/proofread essays and short stories.
I have experience with all modes of writing, including expository, expressive, descriptive, narrative, analysis, persuasive, and technical.
I believe that as an English teacher, I bring skills to this job that others might not possess. This includes recognizing awkward sentences, non-parallel sentences, run-on sentences, and fragments. Not only can I recognize them, but I can also offer viable solutions for fixing the problem. In addition, I teach grammar so I am highly proficient in capitalization, comma, and other punctuation rules. My knowledge also is founded in conveying ideas and increasing sentence fluency while not altering the voice of the piece.
When proofreading, I use the Modern Language Association (MLA) format.
