I am a forty-year old mother and a former teacher at many levels of education. I earned a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz in Language Studies in 1990, followed by two years of teaching assistance in special education. From there I earned my M. Ed. in Early Childhood Education and an advanced teaching credential in 1993, and taught on and off, in many different grades and subjects, from 1993 to 2004, when I had my son.
I come from a family of extremely literate people. I have been reading since the age of four and have always been a talented writer. My writing has been published in magazines and newspapers, and I have received much positive feedback for it. Most recently, I taught English at the middle school level, and my students usually exited my class with a love of writing, even if they were hesitant writers at the beginning or even disliked it when they entered my class. I am a voracious reader, and read a wide range of literature, from classic English, to contemporary, to non-fiction. My favorite author at the moment is Jhumpa Lahiri (David Sedaris is a very close second), and I have had a lifelong love of J.D. Salinger. I have read all of his books numerous times. Most of my friends, as well as my husband (who is also a teacher) come to me to proofread and edit their writing for whatever purpose. Currently I am assisting my husband with his campaign for our local school board, which involves lots of technical writing and persuasive missives to help get him elected. Most important to know about me is that I love the art of writing and am what some people would call overly dedicated to grammatical correctness and proper sentence structure.writer
