I taught English for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kyrgyzstan. I taught 8th-11th graders at a public high school in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan. Two of my students won U.S. State Department scholarships to study in the United States for one year.
After my Peace Corps experience, I worked for a little more than two years at Heldref Publications in Washington, D.C. Heldref publishes more than forty academic journals and some magazines. I was the managing editor for Asian Affairs and Demokratizatsiya, which are political science journals, before being promoted to Deputy Director of Journals. As the Deputy Director of Journals I worked on a wide array of publications. The publications' subject areas included: political science, literature, social studies education, arts education, and college teaching.
I have an excellent command of English grammar and syntax as well as an in-depth understanding of the Chicago Manual of Style. I take a lot of pride in returning copy that is readable, concise, and mistake free. I strive to make sure that every word counts and to eliminate words that do not add anything to the article.
I am also going to law school part time at Chicago-Kent College of Law in Chicago, Illinois. I am currently taking a course on legal writing and research. The course has helped me to continue to hone my writing and editing skills.
