Before refocusing on editing / writing / proofreading, I worked for over 10 years as a commercial / regulatory lawyer in England and Hong Kong, specializing in the telecommunications, IT and media sectors. As part of my job, I drafted and edited reports, agreements, regulatory submissions and sections of corporate and financing documents. I also wrote and edited marketing fliers and client newsletters and contributed to two books (Telecoms: the EU Law, Palladian, 1998 and Encyclopaedia of European Telecommunications Law, Sweet & Maxwell, 1999). I gained a familiarity with technical terminology in the telecoms, IT and media sectors and an understanding of issues in that industry.
Since shifting to freelance writing / editing / proofreading, I have worked on a range of projects including editing translations of business documents and user guides for a major telecoms operator, writing for and then becoming editor of a newsletter for relocating professionals and their families, writing and/or editing several career guides for lawyers, and editing screenplays, recipe booklets and membership directories.
I have travelled widely and have lived and worked in England, Hong Kong, Jamaica and the US. Accordingly, I have frequently edited documents written by people for whom English is a second language and am familiar with US and UK spelling and grammar.
My first degree was in Classics and included papers in Latin, Greek, ancient history and philosophy. I remain interested in ancient civilizations.
