I have always believed that words can help people look their very best. And I have always loved helping people to look their best!
I graduated in 1998 with a BA in English and immediately went to work as a closed caption editor. I then spent 7 years as a closed caption editor in Minneapolis. While working as a caption editor, I was able to see on a daily basis the difference that careful proofreading made.
It wasn't enough to properly hear and record the spoken words; we had to use punctuation to make sure that the inflection and meaning of the words was clear. We had to be certain that we used the correct words and correct spellings to avoid accidentally misrepresenting a speaker's intentions. And we always had to be true to the intentions of the speaker, not to what we would have said.
I left closed captioning at the end of 2005 and have since been self-employed. I enjoy using my knowledge of the English language to help people accomplish all that they want in life. I know that when a document is poorly punctuated, filled with typos or misspellings, or difficult to follow, readers are confused and frustrated; and the authors aren't fairly represented.
I work fast, because I know that people are often working with deadlines. I am affordable, because I want people to be able to afford my services. And I offer work of the highest quality.
