In short, I am an experienced editor and indexer who has worked for years on complex and scholarly texts in various capacities. I am well versed in publishing process, knowledgeable in technology, and possessed of the education and abilities that would serve any freelance projects you might have well.
I am an experienced editor. As a development editor, I have been responsible for working with authors and other editors on my team to develop complex texts into finished manuscripts and to shepherd those manuscripts through the production process. I have also served the role of copy editor, ensuring accuracy and textual consistency for projects. At Macmillan USA, I served as an Editorial Indexer. In this position, I was responsible for creating indexes for a wide variety of complex, computer-related materials; responsible for editing those indexes for stylistic and mechanical accuracy; and finally responsible for laying out the polished indexes in final book form using desktop publishing applications, PageMaker and Quark.
As an editor with the state of Indiana’s Legislative Services Agency I copyedited and proofed complex legal material for sense, mechanical consistency, conflicts with existing law, and for formatting standards necessary for tracking and maintaining the legality of the documents. My editorial interests had their beginnings even as I was completing my college work. During my college years, I served in editorial capacities on literary journals overseen by the respective English departments. I have also taught English on a college level for many years.
