I am a proofreader who has experience tutoring and editing papers for college students from the undergraduate level all the way up to doctoral candidates. I am able to provide both basic proofreading (grammar/mechanics) as well as feedback about overall organization and coherency. I can work with both nonfiction and fiction projects.
I currently work as a tutor in the University of Missouri-Kansas City Writing Center where I assist students in a variety of programs and at all levels with their writing skills. I can provide basic corrections of mechanical errors, but also much more. I can aid writers with improving the overall structure of their papers by providing advice about things such as organization and powerful word choices. I am skilled at aiding a writer in expressing his or her thoughts clearly and correctly without losing his or her own original voice. I believe that individual voice is just as important as any other element of writing, and will not edit in such a way as to lose that vital component.
I have a bachelor of arts in English Literature as well as a bachelor of arts in Spanish Language and Literature. I am familiar with literary criticism and the elements of a successful critical paper. I graduated with an A average in both degrees. I have also worked as a book critic and reporter for the U-News, so I am familiar with journalistic writing. I have had short fiction published and have experience with fiction writing workshops and can provide helpful feedback on creative projects.
