I lived in Japan for five years and specialized in proofreading and editing documents that had been translated from Japanese into English. This requires not only a precise understanding of English, but also of Japanese and how a non-native English speaker may translate a document into English, but still incorporate the source language's syntax and colloquialisms. The end result can be awkward and it requires a skilled native English speaking editor to clean it up for universal clarity. During my five years in Japan I was also a full-time English teacher. This experience really sharpened my grammatical skills and knowledge of the English language. My main subject of expertise involves film and anything having to do with the media. I have a master's degree in media arts and the program required that I continually read and write advanced texts pertaining to pertinent cultural, social, and political issues. As a graduate teaching assistant I constantly read and evaluated undergraduate essays, paying special attention to grammatical and typographical errors. My hobbies include many kinds of sports, and naturally as a result I am versed in various types of sports lingo and jargon as well. My reading interests vary along the spectrum. I have a penchant for non-fiction, particularly historical or philosophical literature. Of course I'm not disinclined to pick up a work of fiction at times as well. Overall, I have a broad range of interests and experience. I am a seasoned world traveler and can incorporate the ideologies of many different cultures into my editing.
