I am primarily an academic editor and proofreader of scholarly articles, academic books, dissertations, and theses. I specialize in art, architecture, history, anthropology, archaeology, literature, science, and illustrated books. I work well with academics and students (undergrad and grad), particularly foreign students, because of my academic and teaching background.
I am an editor, art historian, and occasional Web designer based in Victoria, BC. I have an MA in art history (University of Victoria, BC) and am working on a PhD through the University of Washington (Seattle, WA) in architectural history. I also have an editing certificate from the University of Washington Extension Program. As a freelance copy editor and proofreader, I frequently work with the University of Washington Press on complex academic publications, often on books related to art topics. I am great at helping students, especially graduate students, develop a scholarly article, dissertation, or thesis. I particularly enjoy working with academics whose first language is not English; they really benefit from the close work we do together. With my academic background in a demanding, cross-disciplinary field (art history), I am good at pulling together research and ideas. I am also a writing instructor, most recently having taught college writing to undergraduates at the University of Washington.
I am a very patient editor, which is why academics for whom English is not their first language enjoy working with me. Here are some of their comments:
From a Chinese art history professor: "By digging out the exact meaning in
a rough draft, Lenore helped me to find the true thought in my text and
articulate it in a comprehensible way. It was a truly critical process."
From a Romanian comparative literature professor: "I would like to thank you again for your substantial effort to copy edit my rough prose and to make it sound so well. Without your patience and deep understanding of the difficult meanings concealed in certain concepts I could not have succeeded in finishing this project for publication."
