Academic background includes major research writing, writing center director for the department, lead editor for large intellectual property law firm. I enjoy writing very much and can argue for hours the merits of proper placement of commas. I thoroughly enjoy the process of writing and editing. I avidly participate in all of the steps: the initial rough draft, the second rough draft, the third rough draft ... And then the process of revising takes place. I do enjoy all levels of editing, from an in-depth developmental review down to the mechanical level of editing. I typically resort to the Chicago Manual of Style whenever there is no other guidance or required style manual, but am familiar with a number of style manuals. The important thing of course is the consistent application of the rules of a consistent single source. In my current position as a technical writer, I write regulations for a government agency. While this is limiting in the scope of the content, there are plenty of opportunities to work to improve the readability of the regulations to meet the needs of a wide range of abilities.
