I have copy edited and proofread both freelance and in-house for over 17 years. I'm comfortable editing online (MS Word) or on hard copy. I've edited academic books, university publications, trade magazines, and promotional materials.
I have particular expertise editing books, manuals, and journals in the fields of health, medicine, linguistics, English as a second language (ESL), and considerable experience with general topics in biology, business administration, and social science.
At a national college testing organization, I edited a new test and did quality assurance on both the textual and the software problems that arose. I managed and organized the input on quality assurance submitted by other team members.
I have tracked author submissions and interfaced with authors to complete their commitments. I assured or got permissions for use of previously published material. I summarized book reviews.
I edited and proofread manuals, public relations materials, and press releases for a distance education institution. I created the first in-house style guide.
I proofread trade magazines and a literary magazine. I made suggestions to cut and/or expand copy to fill columns, proofed ads for copy and graphic elements, ensured optimal placement of advertisements and graphic elements from the articles. I cut and pasted lines and sections to fit page boards, using a light board.
