Profile I have been a professional editor for almost 15 years, working on small weekly papers as well as large metros. I majored in English and attended both Rhodes College in Memphis and Middle Tennessee State University, where I completed my degree with a minor in mass communication. I have won several press awards in Tennessee and Alabama for writing, photography and editing, including the first ever award given for headline writing in Tennessee.
I actually began my "career" as an editor in fifth grade, when our class put together its own newspapers. Between school newspapers, annuals and journals, I have spent three-fourths of my life editing copy.
The stories I have written and edited include those involving medical issues, politics, business, horses, agriculture, the arts, education, the military, history and science. I have a passion for accuracy and an eye for errors.
I'm also a lover of fiction, and read romance, fantasy, mainstream and mystery novels whenever I'm not editing news stories.
I can't read a book without editing it -- the errors jump off the page at me and I feel compelled to correct them.
I have attended many editing workshops sponsored by press associations and am proficient in AP style, Little Brown, Strunk & White, Chicago Manual of Style and MLA.
My lengthy experience as a newspaper editor means I am fast and accurate. Deadlines are always met.
