I am a detail-oriented person with a creative streak and a lot of experience in editing of all sorts. This ranges from basic proofreading to substantive editing that optimizes clarity, organization, and flow. I enjoy making sure that what the writer is attempting to say really comes through to the intended audience.
I am interested in editing academic scientific and medical documents (journal articles, theses, textbooks, grants, etc.
For the past two years, I have been a freelance editor for the agency Exceptional English, specializing in editing scientific articles by non-native English speakers who are hoping to publish in English language journals. Those articles have covered various medical and bioscience fields including neurology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
Before that, I worked for five years as an editor for Chemical & Engineering News, the flagship magazine of the American Chemical Society. Here I worked collaboratively with a wide range of writers. I was responsible for copyediting, proofreading, and overseeing production of one-quarter of this weekly newsmagazine, producing pages that are clear and accurate under tight deadlines.
In terms of education, I have a B.A. in biology and an M.S. degree in science journalism. I have also done graduate-level coursework and laboratory work in neurology and molecular biology.
