I have been editing since the age of seven, when I started rewriting my father's rejected submissions to western magazines. I’ve edited and written school papers, fiction manuscripts, newsletters and articles, advertising materials, cookbooks and cooking articles, and technical materials. I'm currently writing content for several information websites, and working on a novel. It’s about determining who the audience is, and then writing for them.
The fewer grammar and punctuation errors there are in a document, the easier the material is to absorb and understand. A misplaced comma doesn't seem like much, but it can be a pebble in your shoe as you continue to read. It can change the meaning of a sentence completely. Sometimes a sentence needs to be split; sometimes two sentences need to be united with a semicolon or comma. Sometimes a sentence needs to be moved. You won’t notice the changes, but your message will shine more clearly.
Good editing makes for clear communication. It make information easier to understand and absorb. It removes unnecessary barriers between writer and reader. You will sound just like yourself when I’m finished, only more so! You won’t be able to see what I’ve changed, but it will be cleaner and clearer and it will flow better.
