Profile I am in love with the English language, with its power, its agility, its variety. I love to read historical, science fiction, and fantasy. This love has given me an extensive and colorful vocabulary, which in turn compels me to strive for precision in language usage in my own writing.

I wrote and self-edited three newsletters, for several years each, which taught me to respect deadlines and word count limits. I still serve as editor on one of them.

I cannot let bad or even fuzzy grammar pass. Finding the best word in each case is my passion. Misused “sound-alikes” like your/you’re or troup/troop make me crazy. The other writers in my critique group call me the Grammar Nazi because I am a compulsive line editor. I'm almost as meticulous about punctuation as I am about correct word usage. One of these writers, who also edits professionally, asked me to line edit the last draft of her fantasy novel before it went to the publisher.

At the other end of the stick, one of the dancers in the movie "Grease" wrote "The Unauthorized Grease Trivia Book." My editing of that book actually amounted to ghost writing.

My years with this group has exposed me to a variety of viewpoints and approaches in both fiction and non-fiction. Our primary directive is to nurture and protect each writer's distinctive voice. My goal as an editor is to clean your manuscript of any awkwardness or errors that can distract your reader. I believe the reader should never "hear" anything but your own voice telling your story your way.
