I graduated from the University of West Florida with a bachelor's degree in journalism and a minor in English. I worked on the college paper as a copy editor for two semesters and attended SEJC, the Southeastern Journalism Conference, in 2008. Copy editing allows me small amounts of freedom to change wording in order to get a cohesive idea across to the reader.
I am currently a proofreader for a court reporter's company. I proofread transcripts from lawyers and examinations from doctor's. After court reporters translate their steno to English, there tends to be many, many flaws. This is where I come in and fix them. I may not always completely understand the doctor or lawyer terms, but I know the verbiage, and I definitely know how to spell them. My work day starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. I don't take a lunch break. I eat while I read. I will sit and read for hours until the job is finished, and I don't get tired easily. My hobbies outside of work, of course, are reading and editing. If you give me boring paperwork with errors, I will return to you boring paperwork free of errors.
I enjoy proofreading, and I am a comma-happy person. Also, if you have two words modifying a third word, hyphenate it! Unless, of course, it's an adverb. I'm a geek, and I'm proud.
My friends seek my knowledge in proofreading/editing for their college papers. I have great letters of recommendations from my current job and my past English teachers in college. The job field is not lucrative in Pensacola, Florida, hence my interest to delve into the Internet world.
