I began as a writer in a print media world. I was promoted into a management position producing sales and marketing information (direct marketing and collateral). I moved to editorial roles in publishing -- acquiring legal reference books and editing newsletters for owners and managers of small businesses. I returned to copywriting in a non-publishing environment, moving to an international electronics manufacturer. I took a brief semi-retirement that still afforded opportunities to write promotional copy. After updating my technical skills I re-emerged into a digital environment as a hypertext editor and new media producer. I was promoted into management of a new media production department from 1998-2003, when the dot-com bubble-burst reached my small firm. I partially re-invented myself once again, moving into an online journalism environment as an editorial producer.
I have my eye on technical writing, and am in he process of adding key software tools, but I have already created documentation as well as managing software development projects.
However, I am open to any role that will challenge my experience, intelligence and energy, require development of new skills and tool-sets -- and allow me to deliver increasing value to the employer who hands me that opportunity and responsibility.
I am NOT a programmer or developer. My college degree was NOT obtained within the past five, or even 10 years. Consequently, I do not possess many of the software tools currently required for positions such as web producer.
