My bachelor of arts degree from the University of Toronto prepared me surprisingly well for an early career in investment banking. After graduation, I took a job with an investment bank in Toronto, where I focused my energies on mining research and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program. For several years, I helped research, write, and edit financial reports. I did this in Toronto and New York City, where I relocated for a year to manage a global database project.
My second career, as a freelance editor and writer, began to take shape after I returned to Toronto in 2000. I took several courses in the publishing program offered by Ryerson University, and I completed a short editorial internship for HarperCollins Canada. Since then, I have edited or proofread fiction and non-fiction trade books, investment research reports, regulatory reports, websites, textbooks, articles, and even a screenplay. My writing credits include online articles on personal finance, marketing materials for a startup, and chapter-opening vignettes for a corporate finance textbook.
Like most editors, I am detail-oriented and conscientious. I thrive on the various challenges presented by the written word. A lifelong student, I am also continually upgrading my skills or adding new methods to my editorial toolkit. While investment research is an area of specialization for me, my clients are a varied group.
