Grammar CorrectionEarlier approach to grammar correction focused on correcting incorrect sentences. Grammar correction can be described as an effort to replace the wrongly written grammar with a correct one. In order to cope with errors in grammar, new ideas have been identified for completing a well formed sentence.Some authors define grammar correction as error corrected by a teacher. Some earlier authors argued that grammar correction should be abolished because it was harmful. Others argue that grammar correction was ineffective because it never facilitated improvement in writing done by students. There was an argument that although students require grammar correction, the teacher should not necessarily provide it to the student however this would leave the students with unfulfilled desires of wanting to know where they erred. Critics argue that although grammar correction is a situation where the teacher corrects the student can score higher marks in a paper; research shows that even the teachers sometimes make error so grammar correction cannot be that efficient. Grammar correction still remains a popular teaching practice in both written and spoken contexts however its use has declined over the years because of problems in communication however it is assumed that it is required if a student is to speak or write well. Oral grammar correction poses great problems for teachers and students therefore some critics say grammar correction should be banned but the teachers effort to bring a student from not writing and speaking a certain language to writing and speaking it well should still be rewarded this is because if two students, one has been exposed to grammar correction and another without were given a paper to write, there would be very little difference in the performance of the students. It would be even difficult to tell which one is better than the other that is if they have been exposed to the same level of language writing and speaking. Click here
