Scholarly Writing

When experts in a particular field of study get together and write certain articles, it is called scholarly writing. The articles written have a primary audience who are field study experts and students. Therefore, the scholarly articles are more sophisticated and advanced than those found on general magazines.

A typical scholarly writing has an objective stance, it clearly states the significance of the topic and it is organized. The article is detailed adequately, to allow for reproduction by other scholars and arriving at the same results.

There are some certain characteristics that can be used to describe scholarly writing. These are: in scholarly writing, the text is normally in plain black and white, with charts, graphs and tables included.

There are no color pictures or photographs. ; Articles in scholarly writing are usually targeted for researchers, professors, and university and college students. The author of the article is an academic in a particular discipline or field. Editing of articles is done by experts in the field who review the articles submitted for publication.

In scholarly writing, the language used is specialized vocabulary of the discipline covered. The publishers are normally the universities, research institutes and scholarly press. The purpose of the article is to give a report on original research, experimentation, and methodology, as well as theory. The articles include bibliographies and footnotes, which cite the authors of researched materials.
