Speech Writing

Are you speech writing for a graduation, class assignments, presentations, or any other purpose? Many people fear the prospects of making a speech in public similarly, many writers also don't like the idea of speech writing.

While speech writing is not a very pleasant option for many writers today, the ability to write a good speech should not be overlooked. Any person responsible for speech writing should have a good idea of the project that is the topic of the speech. He should also have good writing skills. A lot of time should be invested in researching the topic when speech writing.

Before you begin to speech write, there are things that you should know. First, you should know the occasion that you are preparing to write for. The occasion will set the tone, content and length of the speech. It will also determine the beliefs, attitudes and expectations of the audience. For instance, if the occasion is a funeral, the speech will be a short eulogy, comforting to the audience. A funeral is normally a very solemn occasion and thus the speech should not be lengthy, tiresome and boring.

Secondly when speech writing, you should know the purpose of that speech. The speech may be for entertaining people, for enlightening them or for persuading people. In all these cases, you first need to know the purpose of the speech so as to prepare it adequately and in the proper manner.

In speech writing, you will also need to know the audience that you are writing the speech for. What are the needs, beliefs, background and expectations of your audience? You should write your speech to address the people at that occasion in a personal way.

Finally in speech writing, it does make sense for you to know who will be presenting the speech. Once you get to know the speaker well, you will be able to match his or her personality and vernacular with your message.

While considering speech writing, you ought to know that the writing must have a logical structure. It must have an introduction, a main body and a conclusion. All these must progress naturally, from one phase to another, until the end.
