The Introductory Comma
The introductory comma separates introductory words,
phrases, and dependent clauses at the beginning of a sentence
from the main clause.
Examples:
Therefore, we signed the papers as he requested.
(introductory word)
In addition, we agreed to rewrite the contract next
week. (introductory phrase)
When the check arrived, we were disappointed to learn
that only $50 was being refunded to us. (introductory dependent
clause)
