Rule 6:
To use a possessive
noun, add an apostrophe and sometimes an 's' to the noun.
If the noun ends in s, add just an apostrophe.
Example:
The boys' bicycles were locked in the bicycle
rack.
If the noun ends in s but the possessive form of the
noun is pronounced with an extra s sound, add an apostrophe
and an s.
Example:
This is Chris's book.
If the noun does not end in s, add an apostrophe
and an s.
Example:
The boy's puppy was a Christmas gift.
This is Mary's book.
The children's department is on the fourth
floor.
