ESL Editing

Editing Services Non-Native Speakers English

ESL Editing. The acronym ESL stands for English as a Second Language. Because the English language is widely used as a means of communication among speakers of different languages, ESL editing has become a much-sought-after service in academic and professional settings. Who Uses ESL Editing? Many non-native speakers of English study English as a second language because they want to pursue graduate and post-graduate studies abroad in English-speaking countries. Other non-native speakers of English want to get their research published in English-speaking professional journals. But the English language, especially in its written form, presents many challenges in grammar, usage, and punctuation. So how can these non-native speakers of English compete? Thatís where ESL editing comes in. ESL editors provide a variety of editing services for their clients who speak English as a second language. ESL editors perform admissions essay editing, dissertation editing, and thesis editing for non-native English speakers. ESL editors also check and correct the language of scholarly papers so non-native speakers of English can get their research published in English-speaking professional journals. How Does ESL Editing Work? After reviewing the clientís document, the ESL editor will recommend a level of edit depending upon the English language proficiency of the client. In general, there are two levels of ESL editing. For a basic ESL edit, an ESL editor will check and correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and word usage. The ESL editor will also correct inconsistencies in capitalization, number style, abbreviations, and use of italics or underscores. A heavy ESL edit not only addresses English grammar and usage but also writing style. In addition to performing all the editing tasks of a basic edit, a heavy ESL edit may include rewriting sentences to make them more concise and easier to read as well as reorganizing the text to improve readability.
