Great editing will improve your writing.

Editing is vital to clear and precise writing. It must always involve someone else reading a piece of writing and checking for spelling and punctuation. Thus, that is where some people go wrong. The writer knows what they meant to say so when they read over their writing, their eyes may not find mistakes because their brain knows what they meant to say. For this reason, another person must do the editing.
In these days and times of spell check, people are not paying a lot of attention to spelling correctly. They are depending on the computer to check the spelling for them. The problem with this comes when they have used the wrong word but it is spelled correctly. Therefore, you cannot depend totally on spell check.
Another aspect of editing is checking on punctuation. Of course, spell check does not check punctuation. It seems as we have become a technology-dependent society, punctuation has changed. Over approximately the last ten years, I have noticed that certain uses of punctuation have changed. A good example of this change in writing is commas. The rules for commas have definitely changed. They have become relaxed. Whether this is right or wrong is not for this writer to decide. It is just a fact.
In conclusion, editing includes not only spelling mistakes but punctuation as well. In younger grades, students are still taught the tools of writing and editing. However, somewhere between the primary grades and high school, these tools are relaxed. We still must produce good writing that has been edited to make it look its best.
