Personal Profile

An efficient adaptable and well organised individual with an eye for detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work..

Personal Details

I have 30 years experience as a Solicitor both in local government and private practice specialising in commercial property, landlord and tenant, local government law (including report writing and legal research), conveyancing and other non-contentious work. For the past 2 years I have taken a break from office work. Instead I have been carrying out self employed work explaining and completing complicated legal and financial documentation.

On 13 March 2012 I obtained a Merit in Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning from The Publishing Training Centre and am a member of a writing group in Bridport.

I also do voluntary work for the following charitable organisations.

1. I am General Secretary of The League of Friends of Weymouth and Portland Hospitals, a small charitable organisation based in Weymouth. This involves carrying out all the administrative work including preparation of agendas, newsletters etc. I enjoy this very much. We raise money through the tea bar and also by donations, bazaars etc. which is utilised to fund various items of equipment required for hospitals and doctor's surgeries.

2. I help out at Bridport Museum in an occasional voluntary capacity which involves opening up or shutting down the museum, greeting visitors, operating the till, handling cash and general front of house duties. I also enjoy this work as I am able to talk to lots of different people. When it is quiet I enjoy looking at the exhibits as I am very interested in archaeology. I am also helping with an oral history project for the museum.

3. I am also a VisitWoods Volunteer for the Woodland Trust. I find this work exciting as I am able to download digital photos and blogs onto the Woodland Trust website and I am responsible for moderating any pictures or blogs which others wish to place on the website.

4. I also do some research into planning matters for the Woodland Trust in so far as any applications affect woods or trees and consider the implications of any planning proposals.

5. I am a member of my local community church and enjoy talking to people. Through my church activities I have been able to get to know people whom I would not normally have met in other circumstances, because we all have different interests. I am also attending a course in Poole which enables me to study the Bible in more depth.

I have a full, clean driving licence and my own car.
