I have over 30 years of experience writing and editing a variety of for-profit and non-profit internal and external materials including newsletters, hard copy and online product literature, customer notifications, product descriptions, fundraising campaigns and more.
I have edited policy and procedures manuals for a major financial services firm to insure compliance with government regulation and self-regulatory agencies in the industry. I edited all correspondence for senior executives in the operations division of that firm.
I have written and edited a variety of sales proposals including “boiler plate” and original composition to insure consistent messaging and a single voice. For the past 15 years I have been a freelance journalist specializing in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) news, commentary, reviews, and opinion. I have also had fiction and non-fiction short stories published in this arena.
As a consultant on LGBT issues, I have edited organizations’ bylaws, human resources documents (applications, benefits, etc.) and customer-facing documents (marketing, intake, applications, etc.) to make them sensitive to these population groups. I have also edited marketing brochures and literature to make them more appealing to potential LGBT customers.
I am sensitive to other social issues such as feminism, racism, xenophobia, etc., and can help make an organization’s communications neutral to positive depending on the audience and the goals.
