Brokerages Editing and Proofreading Services

A brokerage's writing has to work at two speeds. Onboarding documents are read slowly, or more often not at all, by someone eager to start trading. Margin calls, liquidation notices and platform outage messages are read in seconds by someone whose money is moving in the wrong direction. The same firm produces both, and regulators increasingly assess not whether a risk was disclosed somewhere but whether it was disclosed in a way a retail client could actually take in — which turns a great deal of standard brokerage documentation into a live problem.

We edit what brokerages and trading platforms produce — account opening and onboarding documentation, client agreements and terms of business, risk warnings and appropriateness assessments, margin and leverage disclosures, margin call and close-out notifications, order execution and best execution policies, fee schedules and cost disclosures, product disclosure documents for derivatives and complex instruments, platform help content and trading guides, market data and research disclaimers, complaints handling correspondence, outage and incident communications to clients, and marketing material subject to financial promotion rules. Our editors check that risk language is proportionate and specific, and that what the fee schedule says matches what the client actually pays.

The margin call notification is the most consequential message a brokerage sends, and it is frequently written as a system alert rather than as a communication. A client reading "margin level below maintenance requirement — action required" at 11pm may not know what action, by when, or what happens if they do nothing. We rewrite these so the message states the current shortfall in currency terms, the exact deadline with the time zone, precisely what the firm will do if the deadline passes — including that positions may be closed without further notice and not necessarily in the client's preferred order — and the two or three ways the client can resolve it. We also make sure the wording in the notice matches the close-out provisions in the client agreement, because the gap between an aggressive contractual right and a softly worded alert is where complaints and regulatory findings both originate.

Everything you send is treated in strict confidence, including client communications, agreements in draft and incident documentation. We are editors rather than regulatory or legal advisers and cannot approve financial promotions or confirm compliance — your compliance function must sign off client-facing material. What we can do is make the documents clear, consistent and readable at the speed they will actually be read.
