Electrical Businesses Editing and Proofreading Services

A customer asks for two extra sockets in a bedroom and a light in the loft. Simple work, half a day, and one of those jobs is notifiable and one is not — which affects who signs what, whether the local authority is told, and what the customer will need when they come to sell the house. None of that is on the quotation, and the customer will discover it from a conveyancer in four years.

We edit what domestic electrical businesses produce — quotations for domestic work and what is included, notifiable work explanations and certification documentation, certificate and building control notification information for customers, consumer unit and rewiring proposals and their staging, fault-finding and callout charge documentation, terms of business and payment terms, EV charger and solar installation documentation, landlord certification and reporting, guarantee and warranty documentation, and customer guidance on what needs an electrician. Our editors work on the quotation a homeowner will still be relying on in four years.

The domestic quotation is where an electrician either documents a job properly or leaves a paperwork gap in somebody's house, and its failure is a price with a line of description. A quotation reading "supply and install two double sockets and loft light — £340" says nothing about certification, and certification is the part that outlives the work. We write these so each element is identified as notifiable or not, with what that means practically — who issues the certificate, whether the local authority is notified, and what the customer will receive; so the certificate the customer will be given is named, along with when it will arrive and what it covers, since a customer who receives nothing assumes nothing was needed; so the price separates materials, labour and anything that may vary, with the specific thing that could change it — the joist run that cannot be seen, the plaster that may need making good, the consumer unit that may not accept another way; so the making-good position is stated plainly, because whether the electrician fills, plasters or paints is the commonest domestic dispute in the trade; so anything the customer must arrange is listed, covering access, furniture, decorating and any other trade; so the guarantee covers workmanship with a period and states what it excludes; and so the recommendation the customer did not ask for is separated from the quotation, priced and clearly optional. Quotations written this way are found in a drawer four years later and answer the question.

Everything you send is treated in confidence, including quotations, certificates and customer correspondence. We are editors rather than electricians or regulatory advisers, and we offer no view on notifiable work, certification or compliance. What we can do is make the paperwork position visible on the quotation.
