Cleaning Services Editing and Proofreading Services

The cleaner comes on Thursdays for three hours. This week the customer noticed the skirting boards had not been done, and the cleaner had spent forty minutes on an oven that was not in the price. Both of them are annoyed and both are right, because the arrangement was agreed on the phone in four minutes eighteen months ago and has been drifting ever since.

We edit what cleaning businesses produce — service specifications and what each visit includes, frequency and rotation schedules for less frequent tasks, exclusions and additional service pricing, quotations and their basis, key holding and access arrangements, terms of business including cancellation and access failure, end-of-tenancy and deep clean specifications, product, allergy and surface guidance, damage and breakage procedures, and staff instructions for a specific property. Our editors work on the list that decides what gets done on Thursday.

The visit specification is what keeps a cleaning arrangement stable, and its failure is a general description of standards. "The property will be cleaned to a high standard" is agreed by everybody and drifts within a month. We write these so the specification lists what happens every visit, room by room, in the order the cleaner works, since this is both the customer's expectation and the cleaner's instruction and they should be the same document; so the tasks that happen on a rotation are named with the interval — skirtings monthly, inside windows quarterly, behind the fridge twice a year — because these are the tasks customers notice missing and cleaners cannot fit in weekly; so the exclusions are stated as a list with prices where they are available as extras, given that an oven, a fridge interior and ironing are the three that cause most friction; so the time available is stated honestly against the list, as a three-hour visit that cannot cover the specification is a complaint waiting to happen and the honest response is to shorten the list or lengthen the visit; so what the customer must do is stated, covering clutter, dishes, pets and access; so the breakage procedure is described with what happens rather than a disclaimer; and so the review point is fixed, since properties change and a specification nobody revisits is one that drifts. Specifications written this way keep both parties satisfied for years.

Everything you send is treated in confidence, including terms, pricing and customer information. We are editors rather than cleaning or employment advisers, and we offer no view on your service, staffing or terms. What we can do is make one list that serves as both the expectation and the instruction.
