Coaches and Consultants Editing and Proofreading Services

Six sessions, twelve hundred pounds, agreed by email. By week four the client is sending long messages between sessions and expecting replies, has rescheduled twice at short notice, and has started asking for feedback on documents. None of that was excluded, because none of it was mentioned, and the coach is now doing about twice the work for the same fee and cannot say so without sounding difficult.

We edit what coaches and independent consultants write — engagement agreements and scope documents, package and pricing descriptions, discovery call summaries and proposals, cancellation and rescheduling terms, between-session support policies, client intake and progress documents, and the messages that reset a relationship that has drifted. Our editors work on the document that has to say no before anybody wants to.

The engagement scope is what determines whether a coaching relationship stays sustainable, and its failure is a package described by the number of sessions alone. Everything that goes wrong happens between the sessions. We work through these so the contact between sessions is defined — whether messages are answered, in what window, of what length, and whether document review is included — since this is where the work silently doubles and the client is not being unreasonable if nobody told them; so the session itself is specified with its length, its format and what happens if a client arrives late; so the rescheduling terms state the notice required and what happens to a session cancelled inside it, given that this is the second largest source of resentment and the coach who has no rule will absorb every instance; so any expiry on unused sessions is stated at the point of purchase; so the outcome is described as what the coach will do rather than what the client will achieve, because promising a result the client controls is both unenforceable and unfair to both parties; so anything outside scope is named specifically — the document reviews, the introductions, the work between sessions — with what it would cost if wanted; so the point at which the engagement can be ended by either side is stated with the refund position; and so a single sentence describes who this is not for. Agreements written this way survive week four.

Everything you send is treated in confidence, including client information, agreements and correspondence about difficult engagements. We are editors rather than coaches, lawyers or business advisers, and we offer no view on your practice, pricing or any client relationship. What we can do is say the awkward part in advance.
